Westward Ho! Day 8: The Grand Canyon – Speechless & Inspired!

Westward Ho! Day 8: The Grand Canyon – Speechless & Inspired!

Waking up to the Grand Canyon? It could never get old. We were out as early as possible after our late arrival to witness one of God's most majestic creations. It’s both terrifyingly vast (especially with little ones!) and stunningly beautiful. Forget what some say about it being a quick stop – bring bikes, stay in the park, and you’ll find endless wonder!
Our day started with an early hike (thanks to GranJan & Papa for watching the littles!). We made it down to Ooh Aah Point – and yes, our Henry gave his BEST "Oohs and Aahs!"

We were so blessed with a mostly shaded trail, making the steep climb out quite pleasant.

Fueled by the beauty, Caleb and the older kids then embarked on what was supposed to be a 7-mile bike ride... cue the "three-hour tour" song!  17 miles and a bus ride later, they returned. Lesson learned: Google Maps isn't always your friend for Grand Canyon biking! We're still on the hunt for an official bike map.
The most poignant part of our day was visiting the historic Bright Angel Lodge. We'd hoped to see the bronze statue of "Brighty of the Grand Canyon." Turns out, it's at the North Rim lodge, which we won't reach. But here's a little secret: reading "Brighty" last summer wasn't just a story for us. It sparked the dream for this ENTIRE "Westward Ho!" adventure, even the purchase of "Buzz" our camper! So, standing at Bright Angel Lodge, thinking of Brighty, felt incredibly special, even without seeing his statue.

A day of awe-inspiring views, family adventures (and misadventures!), and a heartwarming connection to the story that started it all. Feeling so much gratitude.
